Eat these, get sparkly ; )

Getting a facial by a professional is certainly a treat, let me tell you something!!! They extract the impurities, they message your lymphs, they cleanse your aura – really!!! Most importantly they make you love your skin again.

Do you want my honest advice though? Clear and clean skin starts in what you ingest. Sure, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, BUT there are a whole slew of dietary winners that make all of the difference.

So, when someone compliments me on my skin texture and natural glow, I tell it to them straight. Besides drinking CLEAN water – free from fluoride and arsenic acid by using my slow drip water filter – eating pesticide/chemical free/unprocessed whole foods, and abstaining from alcohol, drugs and animal products – I ALSO, value a 7-8 hours of sleep per night!

Cellular regeneration is my friend, and if you are going to get your “beauty” on too, then you must start with my essential “Grocery Shopping List”!

NOTE: I certainly have my dietary and environmental preferences of why I do not support the consumption of animal products, but I will not deny the fact that it has been the main engine to my complexion’s resilience in it’s radiance. Cutting back on animal products also means skipping much of their saturated fats, which are notorious for clogging pores. Plus, many of the vitamins, pigments and phytochemicals in fruits and vegetables contribute towards healthy skin. Not to mention that animal products increase hypertension and raise blood pressure, thus stressing the internal organs which results in dull skin tone and fine lines that eventually increase over time.


Chia seeds: These little pebbles are rich in omega-3’s. Did you know that the retina of your eyes are concentrated with the omega-3 fat DHA? Having a serving of up to 2 Tablespoons a day can assist in this maintenance.


Eggs: If you eat anything from an animal source, lutein and zeaxanthin are high in these little buggers. For best results in keeping the vital yolk in tact, I recommend a healthy steam- YES, STEAM- of the eggs for a quick 12 minutes.

Blackberries: A magical protector of the retinal tissue is within the product C3G, an anthocyanin. This also helps to protect the pigments from free radical damage, think UV rays!


Antioxidants: The key for healthy hair is blood circulation of the scalp. Antioxidants are the leaders in hair follicle friendliness. The best come from the brightly colored berries and vegetables!

Vitamin C: vitamin C is a main culprit for collagen production in your hairs’ protein structure. Note: If your hair breaks from even a little dryness, up your “v-C”! I like berries, kiwis and in season citruses! Don’t forget that there are many vegetables that carry loads of vitamin C as well: Broccoli, Kale, Cauliflower to name a few!


Protein: As a nation, we are far from protein deficient – researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health even found that greater consumption of plant-based protein was associated with a longer lifespan. Insufficient protein can lead to slow and brittle hair growth. I like getting vegetarian sources like hemp seeds, non-GMO miso, and microalgae. Also, many Beans, Nuts, Seeds and Plant-Based Grains are high in protein!

Silica or Silicon: Sounds slimy and hard to find, but this is essential for collagen growth once again. This increases your hair’s richness and prevents thinning! VOILÁ, plants are the best sources of silica. Found in: Wholegrain cereals, Apples, Cherries, Almonds, Oranges, Fish – if consuming – Oats and Seeds.

EYE SKIN ELASTICITY: You know… that skin can sag… gulp!

Cucumber: A double love for this one as it is high in water content! The silicon builds collagen and the sulphur keeps the skin tight! Filled with vitamin K, the blood vessels maintain flexibility for adequate circulation. Don’t forget the rich antioxidant content in this little “water tube”!

Watermelon: A summer time obsession, I can eat a whole melon in one sitting! Watermelons are great hydrators being that they are about 92% water! The more hydrated you are, to more vigor your skin holds.


Blueberries: Probably the favorite for antioxidant content for your eyes that in turn protect your blood vessels, and help with circulation for the eyes – I recommend these blue buddies as much as possible when in season!

Goji berries: Many think that these berries are just “sugar”, but actually they are made up of a special sugar that help keep the skin hydrated! YAY!


Super Berries: Again, the both the goji and mulberry are traditionally used in Asia to keep the skin youthful and moisturized. They have sugars that actually attract water, that will keep you moisturized from the inside out! They are simply the “Elixir of YOUTH” by some Tibetans – stimulating a youth hormone that slows age degeneration.

Seaweeds: My favorite! Containing omega-3’s and simply higher in many minerals and vitamins than many “land veggies”! Fun Fact: A simple sheet of raw (unsalted/unroasted) nori has the same amount of omega-3’s as two avocados – – – YES!!!


Turmeric: A royal staple for complexion improvement and with the active antioxidant curcumin, it is highly anti-inflammatory. Increase the absorption by combining with black pepper and a fat – many use coconut oil or extra-virgin olive oil. Note: These are great combinations for dressings, I choose not to heat this mix to keep integrity in place.

Cayenne: Increases circulation rate, especially in the tissue of the skin! Many ramp up their energy levels/alertness first thing in the morning by mixing warm water with lemon, apple cider vinegar and a pinch of cayenne! I recommend.

Kiwi Fruit: Go ahead, eat 2-3 a day! WAHAT?!?! yep. A great source of vitamin C which single handedly improves collagen production and overall skin texture – giving you that glow baby glow!

Avocado: Recommended to enjoy 2-4 times a week – Although, I consume every day! Avocados are a great source of healthy fats and vitamin E – Ahem, the wrinkle reducer!!! Did you hear me on the HEALTHY fats part?


Think of your refrigerator as your newest toiletry case. OH, and PLEASE, be aware that these items you are about to take on are pesticide + chemical free. Trust me when I say they are always going to give you the BEST results from the inside out.
